Staging helps describe where a cancer is located, if or where it has spread, and whether it is affecting other parts of the body.
Cancer at such an early stage is known as stage 0 cancer and it is reversible virtually 100% of the time. These contrast with benign tumors, which do not spread. New tests can detect stage 0 cancer, reversible almost 100% of the time. It doesn't show on scans but there might be.
